March was a relatively quiet compared to March last year and this last financial year has been quite challenging at times – no two years are the same.
The second Wine Club this year was another success with a smaller group but Melissa Lawson of Cypress Vineyard and Courtney from the Manifesto Wine Distributors did a great job in entertaining and educating the guests about the vineyard and the passion and that goes into making wines on a relatively small scale.
I liked the oaked Chardonnay and the Merlot and Syrah as I am mainly a red drinker but we had the pleasure to try the special Cypress 2009 and it was so delicious with approx only 850 bottles made especially for this special vintage! That’s what I love about owner operated vineyards - there is passion in the bottle!! Thanks to you both!
The next Wine Club night will be with Charles Wiffen from Marlborough - it should be another great and entertaining night so book early as I stop at 24 guests for the night. Keep a lookout for the menu and wine matches on the website under events or join the wine club to receive all monthly information.
Easter specials of the month are Grilled Lamb Rack with garlic and rosemary jus with green beans and potato purée as well as our very successful 300gm free-range Pork Cutlet served with smoked red peppers cream.

Have stopped for afternoon tea and cake and for lunch on Sunday. Roland the chef and owner offers an extensive knowledge of food, beer and wine.
His German dishes are superb for something different, but his use of fresh food from the local area is well done. He had desserts to die for many hand made ice cream based with fruit from his orchard. A well considered choice of wines and imported beers as well as an interesting Kawerau brew in the German tradition (white beer). Ambiance, fun, good service from our wait lady who is also German.
The four of us shared the entire dessert menu and left very happy with the whole experience. A must go to weekend treat in a peaceful spot out of town.
