It is August already and Spring is only a month away – the year is flying by!
I have had a great restful time, after my double hip-op, recuperating with friends for the last month and making good progress towards getting back to full fitness.
I will be back at work soon with a new lunch menu and I am currently working on a new dinner menu.
I want to thank Phyllis and Monique for holding the fort while I was away - I'm very proud how they managed. Sadly Monique will be leaving us middle of next month to go back to Australia and I wish her all the best for the future.
Chefs special dish for the month is slow roasted lamb shanks in a tomato, chili, garlic and onion sauce served with potato mash.
The social wine club will not be operating during June and July but we are hoping to start again in August depending on the speed of Roland’s recovery. All going well we will start again with Forrest Estate Winery. We will be back in touch with you prior to that to confirm the details.
One idea I am considering for the future is to organize a monthly dinner dance using local musicians. I will keep you informed as to whether we proceed.
Don’t forget Oktoberfest end of next month, book early Entry fee is $20 p/p that gives you a glass of beer, bubbles or wine on arrival.
Get a group together for a good night - our back-room is now open for groups up to 18 people (minimum 10 people).

Have stopped for afternoon tea and cake and for lunch on Sunday. Roland the chef and owner offers an extensive knowledge of food, beer and wine.
His German dishes are superb for something different, but his use of fresh food from the local area is well done. He had desserts to die for many hand made ice cream based with fruit from his orchard. A well considered choice of wines and imported beers as well as an interesting Kawerau brew in the German tradition (white beer). Ambiance, fun, good service from our wait lady who is also German.
The four of us shared the entire dessert menu and left very happy with the whole experience. A must go to weekend treat in a peaceful spot out of town.
